Dr. Merle Weßel

Dr. Merle Weßel is Caroline Miles Scholar at the Ethox Centre. She is a postdoctoral researcher at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg (Germany) in the division of Ethics in Medicine. She received her PhD in Area and Cultural Studies from the University of Helsinki in 2018 with a dissertation on the entanglement of eugenics and feminism in the Nordic countries.

Her main research interests are feminist ethics, care ethics, intersectionality, diversity, and discrimination in medicine and health care. Her current work focuses on questions of discrimination of older people with diverse identities in medicine and health care, digitalisation, and racism in medicine. She is co-founder of the working group on “Feminist Perspectives in medical ethics and bioethics” (FME) under the roof of the German medical ethics association.
