Michael Martini

Visiting Student

March 2022

Michael is an MD/PhD student at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. He received his PhD in Biomedical Sciences in 2020 and will graduate with his MD in May 2022, after which he will pursue residency training in neurosurgery.

His scientific research focuses are in the areas of drug discovery and machine learning with the goal of developing translational innovations that augment the treatment of neurological diseases. As an aspiring neurosurgeon and scientist, Michael is very interested in translational medical ethics, particularly unique ethical questions that arise when translating scientific theories and discoveries into clinical paradigms for patient care.

Given that neurosurgery is a rapidly evolving field from both clinical and research standpoints, Michael recognizes the critical role that ethical frameworks will play both in the process of pioneering new surgical strategies for patient care in the operating room and in guiding the development of new technologies that interface directly with the human brain.
