The Oxford Biomedical Research Centre (OxBRC) is a partnership between Oxford University Hospital Trust and the University of Oxford. It has been made possible by a grant from the Department of Health's National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). The Oxford BRC undertakes 'translational research', which means taking laboratory research into a clinical setting. This kind of research is about first-time studies of medical innovations in patients, which are intended to improve healthcare delivery for the benefit of all patients. The Ethox Centre is leading the ethics programme of the Oxford Biomedical Research Centre. This involves providing ethics support and training to scientists in the BRC and carrying out ethics research on the ethical aspects of the BRC research.
