Dimpho Ralefala is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Berman Institute of Bioethics, Johns Hopkins University, and serves as Assistant Director for Research Ethics at the Office of Research and Development, University of Botswana. Her research focuses on the ethics of genomics and biobanking, emerging biomedical technologies, informed consent, and the ethical conduct of research involving children. She holds a PhD in Medicine (Bioethics) from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Her doctoral research examined the expectations and preferences of parents and adolescents regarding the return of individual genetic findings in an HIV-TB genomics study in Botswana. She is currently developing a research proposal that investigates benefit sharing and the long-term sustainability of human genetic material and data stored in H3Africa biobanks.
