Davide Battisti is a postdoctoral researcher in Philosophy of Law and Bioethics at the Department of Law, University of Bergamo, and an adjunct professor of Bioethics in the Politics, Philosophy, and Public Affairs Program at the University of Milan and Vita-Salute San Raffaele University.
After earning his Master of Arts in Philosophy with laude from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, he completed his Ph.D. in Clinical and Experimental Medicine and Medical Humanities with honors in December 2021 at the University of Insubria (Como–Varese, Italy). His thesis was titled “Redefining Procreative Responsibility in the Field of Continuous Development of Assisted Reproductive Technologies”. During his Ph.D., he spent time at The Interfaculty Centre of Biomedical Ethics and Law (KU Leuven, Belgium) and was a “Recognised PhD student” at the Oxford Uehiro Centre, University of Oxford (UK). From 2022 to 2023, he served as an ethics consultant at the San Raffaele Research Hospital (Milan) and the Telethon Foundation, focusing on the ethics of newborn genome screening.
Davide Battisti has authored papers and commentaries in international journals such as Bioethics, Journal of Medical Ethics, American Journal of Bioethics Neuroscience, Ethics and Human Research, Social Epistemology, Phenomenology and Mind, and others. His paper “Genetic Enhancement and the Child’s Right to an Open Future” received an award for the best-published paper by the Italian Society of Moral Philosophy. His first monograph, “Procreative Responsibility and Assisted Reproductive Technologies,” is set to be published by Routledge in 2024.
His main research interests include reproductive ethics, ethics of genetics, ethical aspects of allocating scarce medical resources, and ethics of science communication.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Davide Battisti is actively involved in disseminating a philosophical and critical approach to the most important economic, political, and social issues of contemporary time. In this respect, he is the founder and scientific director of the Trentino2060 festival, an event for public engagement and discussion, held in Italy, particularly in Trentino province, which is promoted by the Agorà Association.
