Public Engagement Officer

Wellcome Centre for Ethics and Humanities, NDPH, Old Road Campus, Headington, Oxford

Grade 7: £31,604 - £38,833 p.a.  

Based within the Nuffield Department of Population Health, the newly established Wellcome Centre for Ethics and Humanities is a collaboration between the Ethox Centre; the Oxford Neuroscience, Ethics and Society Group; the Oxford Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics; and the Wellcome Unit for History of Medicine. The Centre will conduct research on and promote inclusive public engagement with the ethical and social challenges presented by advances in neuroscience, big data, genomics, and global connectedness.

The Centre will establish a vibrant and cutting-edge programme of public engagement activities relating to these issues. The Public Engagement Officer will be responsible for shaping, monitoring and evaluating this programme. Together with the Centre Director and Public Engagement Steering Group, the postholder will be responsible for overseeing the allocation of dedicated Centre resources to engagement projects, identifying, developing and maintaining partnerships and encouraging and supporting researchers to engage with the public.

You will have a degree or equivalent experience and relevant experience in public engagement and a track record of designing and delivering successful public events and projects. You will also have experience using digital media (blogs, podcasts etc.) and excellent communication and organisational skills.

The post is full-time (part-time considered, at least 60%FTE) and fixed-term for 3 years (in the first instance).
