Dr Adeline Perrot

Adeline's approach is at the intersection between medical sociology, social policy and bioethics. Her research focuses on the social, ethical and legal issues raised by healthcare practices and biomedical technologies, particularly in the fields of genetics and genomics (genome-wide NIPT, prenatal exome sequencing, genetic testing in children and adults). She has studied Sociology at School of Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS, Paris) and is trained in qualitative research methods.

Current project:

Adeline is currently working in a team with Ruth Horn on a research project to explore the social, ethical and legal issues raised by the implementation of non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) in routine clinical care in different socio-cultural and political contexts (England, France and Germany). As part of the international comparison, she is responsible for the French and English research sites.

Past projects:

• She has held a research grant (Principal Investigator) for the Adosoins project funded by the Foundation of France: ‘Involvement of adolescents living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy in their own health and care’.
• She has also been involved in collective research projects funded by the DataSanté programme and the Rare Disease Foundation.

Publications:

Adeline has published on the ethics of prenatal genetics/genomics and the questions of child-adult relationships, children’s participation in health care and the experience of neuromuscular disorders in children and adults in several major journals (such as EJHG, JME, PLOS One, JGC, Ethnologie française, Sciences Sociales et Santé, Genèses, etc.).
